Who is Wrestling the Past?

This is a one-man band, enjoying missed matches and reliving an exciting upbringing as a fan of pro wrestling. But why?

I grew up in the UK and first got enamoured by the big lights of pro wrestling at the seaside. In Britain we have caravan parks for summer holidays and part of the fun is going to see wrestling shows. They might be adjacent to bars, pools, arcades, bingo halls, but they were fun (especially for the kids) and I have a vague memory of getting too close to the ring and subsequently booted in the head. Then I quickly discovered there was wrestling on TV with WWF tapes being given to me by a family friend who had Sky TV. Little did I know what the rest of the 90s had in store for me. By the time 1997 rolled around, I was successful in begging my parents for access to this wonderful world of TV wrestling.

I trained briefly in 2005 when I was 18 but work and other commitments prevented this from continuing.

Moving on in my fandom

Like most wrestling fans, I moved away from it eventually. I felt I was quite loyal, only becoming ‘lapsed’ in 2010 when I moved to a new house and found a lot of other interests during a dull time in global pro wrestling. However, something special was about to happen. Various wrestling scenes across the globe experienced a resurgence and recaptured my interest. Hard.

By 2017, I found myself a stronger fan than ever, armed with all the knowledge of previous years of being a fan and eventually returned to the ring myself to train again. I initially started my tape studies at this time since a severe neck injury really hampered my life.

I’m pleased and relieved to say that my neck, my mental health and my love for wrestling is better than ever and this is one of the ways I’m expressing my love for the ring and all it’s inhabitants. Thanks for coming along for the ride!
